MatrixOne Granted Patent for Semiconductor IP Management; Comprehensive Patent Enables Collaborative Development and Component Reuse in Advanced Semiconductor Design
GRENOBLE, France & WESTFORD, Mass.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Dec. 7, 2005—
MatrixOne, Inc. (NASDAQ: MONE), a leading provider of
collaborative product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions for the
value chain(TM), today announced that the United States Patent and
Trademark Office has awarded the company a patent for a system for
managing reusable components, commonly referred to as IP (Intellectual
Property) or virtual components in the electronics industry. The
patent defines a comprehensive software application that provides a
secure, high performance distributed library for cataloging,
distributing, tracking, reporting and managing IP. This enables
effective design reuse and the use of commercial components to meet
the needs of increasing design complexity and faster time-to-market in
advanced semiconductor design.
The new MatrixOne patent defines an innovative system that
includes a master IP database and an IP Catalog. In addition, the
patent defines:
-- how this system can be securely deployed and accessed across
both private and public networks;
-- capabilities for IP Registration that will enable IP to be
catalogued and evaluated according to defined reuse standards;
-- the IP Selection capabilities that enable designers to locate
IP that meets their needs and populate the work area within
their EDA design environment;
-- the IP Modification capabilities necessary to report, track
and resolve errors or issues found in IP, and;
-- the processes and capabilities that are used to manage the IP
catalog, release and version the IP database and administer
secure access.
"This comprehensive patent demonstrates our commitment to helping
create the innovations that can solve the increasing complex product
development problems faced by the global electronics industry," said
John Fleming, senior vice president and general manager of MatrixOne's
Electronic Business Unit. "Our semiconductor customers include leading
large IDMs, fabless companies, IP design houses, fabs and foundries.
They are all looking for innovative ways to compress development
cycles, improve quality and lower costs. This patent, and the
commercial solutions we have developed based on it, are enabling them
to achieve these results."
MatrixOne has developed several commercial solutions for the
semiconductor industry based on this patent, including MatrixOne's
Synchronicity(R) Publisher Suite with IP Gear(TM). Several MatrixOne
customers, including some of the world's leading semiconductor
companies, use IP Gear to implement effective design reuse programs
that meet the demands caused by ever-shortening cycles and increasing
chip complexity.
